There goes the neighborhood, maybe.

My goal for this time next year is to get my own place. While I like my roommate, we’ve known each other since high school, after three years I’m ready to live alone again. While I’ve debated moving to Decatur, since many of my friends live there, and also because it feels like I’m either in Decatur or the Highlands every other weekend. However, my job is in Alpharetta. Every time I think about moving toward Decatur, the ominous thought of Atlanta traffic raises its frustratingly slow head. Because of this, I’ve zeroed into an apartment complex on Glenridge Drive between the Glenridge Connector and Roswell Road. This would give me quick access to 400 going either direction, as well as 285. I’m not sure how I feel about my potential neighbors however.

More after the break:

As Jerry referenced in his last post, the Scientologists have been eyeing an old office building at Glenridge and Roswell Road. They intend to move their Georgia headquarters from Dunwoody to this building in Sandy Springs. The last we had heard on the issue the Sandy Springs city council had delayed the decision on whether or not to allow the group to move in until December. There has been an small outcry from residents who believe this move will worsen traffic in the area and there isn’t enough parking at the site. At the time of that previous article, it appeared that the planning commission would deny the request to rezone the property, which would be the first step toward allowing Scientology to move in.

Well, it appears that the group’s concessions have worked. As of this morning, it is being reported that the Sandy Springs planning commission has recommended approval of the rezoning request. It looks like Scientology’s move into Sandy Springs, and its subsequent expansion is closer than ever now. It’s all up to the city council at this point to decide whether or not I end up living down the street from them.

For those unaware of what Scientologists believe, I give you this quick primer:

Hey, just wanted to clear one thing up. You said that “it appeared that the planning commission would deny the request to rezone the property, which would be the first step toward allowing Scientology to move in.” Then that the “planning commission has recommended approval of the rezoning request. It looks like Scientology’s move into Sandy Springs, and its subsequent expansion is closer than ever now.”

It is actually the approval that allows them to move in, not the denial of the approval. So, bottom line – watch out for the engrams!

It’s a badly worded sentence, I guess. I meant that approval was the first step, and it looked like approval was originally going to be denied. but now, the commission has voted to approve the rezoning.

That said, the city council still has to vote on whether or not to let them move in. It isn’t over yet.

Also, I can’t edit the entry right now, or I’ll screw up the embed. Maria has to change some Wordpress settings to allow us to post embedded video. If I try to edit the post, the embed will be removed.
