This extends as well to psychological experiences being interpreted within the context of a religious narrative.

One thing I find interesting is how Carl Jung found that when these experiences occurred within people who had no narrative at all with which to “explain” them, that madness was often the result. So in some way, these “narratives”, however false they are, tend to have some psychological benefit. The mind wants to get to the point where whatever is happening “makes sense”, no matter how nonsensical that might appear objectively.
