What is SkeptiCamp?
SkeptiCamps are informal, community-organized conferences born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Everyone (whether you’ve never heard about skepticism, or you can quote James Randi in your sleep) participates, gives talks, and gets to know each other. In a nutshell, SkeptiCamp is BarCamp adapted to the domain of scientific skepticism.
Skeptics are lovers of all forms of rational thinking and science; as such the presentations will cover a wide array of topics. Come learn about anything from the history of Greek philosophy, the dangers of believing in homeopathy, the importance of teaching evolution, all the way to the usage of newspaper in wrapping fish, and the latest claimed monster “sightings”.
Atlanta SkeptiCamp is a two-day grassroots conference run by you, for you. Think for yourself. Share what you know!
So when and where is it?
Atlanta SkeptiCamp will be held May 3rd and 4th at the office location of Tier3MD (Formerly MD Tech Pro), 3580 Pierce Dr, Atlanta GA 30341. There will also be a social opening event Friday May 2nd, details TBA.
SkeptiCamp is 100% free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Meals will be provided: Lunch and Dinner on Saturday, and Lunch on Sunday.
SkeptiCamp is run solely on voluntary donations by people like you. Including meals brings the cost of SkeptiCamp to around $20 per attendee. We want to keep SkeptiCamp free for everyone to attend, so if you are able to help us offset these costs, please use the donate button below! Everyone who donates will receive a SkeptiCamp supporter pin, so you can show off your support for education and critical thinking.
For people bringing children, please note that the main location is smoke free and there will be a small break room available with sofas/table and a TV. However we can not offer childcare in any form and parents will need to use their own discretion over presentation subject matter.
I’m in! Now what?
Great! Register to attend:
Can I Help?
Absolutely! There are a number of ways you can get involved in SkeptiCamp. If you would like to volunteer to help set up, use your creative talents, give a presentation, or help in some other capacity, we would love to have you! Email Shaune Beattie and let us know you would like to help.
And again, this is a completely free educational event, so if you can help by donating, please do.
